Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday is a Christian festival to mark the start of Lent. Lent is a period of about six weeks when Christians practise abstinence – by giving up luxuries or unnecessary things. Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent) and was celebrated last week by our whole school. Traditionally this was the last chance to eat rich foods before Lent, and an opportunity to use up all of the luxury foods (such as fat, butter and eggs – which pancakes are made of).

We really enjoyed our pancakes made by the famous French chef ‘Henri’, who is Mr Soldani’s cousin.

We made jigsaw puzzles to celebrate the day. You can try them by clicking on the puzzles below.

Creating online Jigsaw Puzzles

jigsawIt’s fun to take photos with friends. However Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 children found it was even more fun to create and solve jigsaw puzzles with their photos.

Using the website Jigsaw Planet, they learned to upload a photo, select the shape and number of  jigsaw pieces and then assemble the pieces to solve the puzzle. As well as this, they could time themselves to see how long they took.

You can make your own too. Just click on the puzzle piece jigsaw
